National Coalition Against Prescription Drug Abuse
Event Description:

The National Coalition Against Prescription Drug Abuse (NCAPDA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit, volunteer-based organization established to prevent prescription drug/opioid-related Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and overdose deaths through community education, policy change, and legislative action at the local, state and federal levels.

Months following the tragic death of their youngest son, Joseph (Joey) John Rover III, April Rovero and Joseph Rovero founded NCAPDA in June 2010. Joey passed away from a lethal combination of alcohol and prescription drugs that a doctor had prescribed just nine days before his death. Joey’s life was cut short on December 18, 2009, just five months before he would have graduated from Arizona State University with degrees in Business and Communications. He left an entire community of family and friends shocked and devastated by his death but committed to tackling the nation’s prescription drug abuse/misuse epidemic in his memory.

NCAPDA partners with schools, colleges, community organizations and medical, law enforcement, and other agencies to increase awareness about the dangers of prescription drug abuse/misuse and to provide overdose rescue training and naloxone distribution.  NCAPDA is also a sponsor of the FED UP! Coalition that works to drive Federal action that will help put an end to America’s opioid crisis.
